A Concise Guide to RLT Watch Co. Models
by rhaythorne

Roy L. Taylor started in the watch  and jewellery business in 1980 working for retail jewellers where he trained in jewellery, watch repairs and sales.  In 1987 he opened the RLT Repair Workshop in a small premises in East Yorkshire, England.  There, as well as selling jewellery and new and vintage watches, he also specialised in exclusive, bespoke jewellery and watches. In the late 1990's he identified the potential of the Internet and, in 1998, sold his first watches from his web site.  With the growth of the Internet business, he left his retail premises in 2001 to concentrate exclusively on selling over the web.

Today, RLT Watches is one of the most trusted names in watches on the Internet selling a wide range of vintage and modern Swiss, Russian and American watches as well as their own range of RLT Watch Co. models.  All the RLT models shown below are assembled at RLT's workshop in England.

It should be noted that with several RLT watch models it is not unusual to find subtle variations between one particular example and another.  These are often the result of specific customer requests - different coloured seconds hands being a particularly popular variation it seems.  The photographs below are the official photographs (except where noted) showing each model in its original, unmodified form.

This guide was created to provide a historical record of RLT Watch Co. models, past and present,  for the benefit of the RLT forum members and anyone else with an interest in RLT watches.  It is important to realise that not all of the watches shown below are current models so, for information on availability, please visit the RLT sales website.

Other than being a happy customer, the author is not associated with RLT in any way at all.

RLT1, 2 and 3RLT1, 2 and 3:  Information is scarce about these three early models.  They appear to be dive watches modelled closely after the official Royal Navy dive watches of the early 1980's.  Recently some more information has come to light, revealing that they were introduced around 2001/2002 and existed in both quartz and automatic versions with different dial designs and hand sets.
RLT4RLT4:  A limited edition of only fifty pieces with the limited edition number engraved on the rotor.  Note however that the fiftieth and last watch of the edition is believed to be un-numbered and instead bears the owner's initials on the rotor and a date on the brass plate applied to the rosewood box.  RLT4 utilises a Swiss made, 25-jewel, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with hack seconds which is tested and adjusted to chronometer standards.  The 43mm case is all steel with a screw-on display back, is 12mm thick and water resistant to 50 metres.  The watch has an onion crown and thick, bevelled mineral crystal.  The black dial sports a calendar and luminous numerals/hands.  Weighing in at 92.5 grams (excluding the 22mm, English, hand-made flieger style strap with white stitching) the watch is supplied in a rosewood box with Limited Edition plaque and a spare set of screwed bars.  One, possibly unique, variation is known to exist that has a white dial, red numerals and blued hands, as shown here
RLT5RLT5:  Very early examples (perhaps the first twenty or so) of the RLT5 employ a non-hacking, 17-jewel version of the Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement tested and adjusted to chronometer standards.  Later examples utilise a 25-jewel version.  Both have a quick set date.  Available in black or white dial versions, this watch has a 36mm all steel case with display back and mineral glass.  Luminosity is provided by Super Luminova on all three hands.  The watch is supplied on an 18mm leather strap.
RLT6 version 1RLT6 version 1:  A military style watch employing a Swiss, jewelled quartz movement from ETA, the RLT6 has a 37mm (inc. crown guard) all steel case, with mineral crystal and screw-on back.  Black or white dialled versions are available.  Super Luminova is applied to all three hands.  An 18mm NATO strap is provided as standard.
RLT6 version 2RLT6 version 2:  This version of the RLT6 has a different dial design to the previous version, incorporating a 24-hour scale.
RLT6-SRLT6-S:  This third version of the RLT6 has different hands to the previous two versions, a re-worked dial layout and sapphire crystal instead of mineral.
RLT6 version 4 / RLT6-NRLT6 version 4 / RLT6-N:  This fourth version of the RLT6 is very similar in appearance to the RLT6-S, but reverts to the use of a mineral crystal as in the first two versions.
RLT6 version 5RLT6 version 5:  This version of the RLT6 features a new style hand set, Swiss, quartz movement, 37mm (inc. crown guard) all steel case with screw-on back and mineral glass.  The hands and calendar are luminous.  RLT6 version 5 is supplied on an 18mm NATO strap of the owner's choosing.
RLT6-ORLT6-O:  RLT6-O is similar to RLT6 version 5 but sports orange sword hands and a black, NATO strap with orange stripe.
RLT6-PVDRLT6-PVD:  RLT6-PVD is similar to RLT6 version 5 but features a sleek, black PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) case with sword hands and is supplied on a black NATO strap.
RLT7RLT7:  This watch employs a Swiss, jewelled quartz movement with three year battery life.  The 30 metre water resistant 40mm case is available in polished steel,  sand-blasted steel and titanium versions all with screw-on back and mineral crystal.  The black dial features a calendar and luminous numerals/hands.  The watch is supplied on a 20mm, black, oiled leather strap.
RLT8RLT8:  Originally produced in a very limited run of just ten pieces, the RLT8 is similar in style to the RLT4 (see above), but it is a chronograph, employing the redoubtable Swiss made, 25-jewel Valjoux 7750 movement.  To accommodate the movement, the case is slightly thicker than that of the RLT4 at approximately 14mm.  An additional four examples of the RLT8 were made available in mid-2007 which may be distinguishable from the original ten by having "R. L. Taylor" signed rotors instead of ones bearing simply "RLT".
RLT9RLT9:  True 24-hour, quartz powered watch.  The 40mm case is water resistant to 30 metres and is available in polished steel,  sand-blasted steel and titanium versions all with screw-on back and mineral crystal.  The black dial features a calendar and luminous hands. The watch is supplied on a 20mm, black, oiled leather strap.
RLT9-GMTRLT9-GMT:  A quartz powered watch featuring a separate and independently adjustable 24-hour hand, allowing the watch to display the time in two distinct time zones.  The 40mm case is water resistant to 30 metres and is available in polished steel,  sand-blasted steel and titanium versions all with screw-on back and mineral crystal.  The black dial features a calendar and luminous hour/minute hands. The watch is supplied on a 20mm, black, oiled leather strap.
RLT9-NRLT9-N:  A true 24-hour watch powered by a jewelled, Ronda, Swiss made quartz movement.  The 37mm all steel case has a screw-on back and is fitted with a domed, mineral crystal.  The black dial has luminous hands and the watch comes fitted as standard with an 18mm, black, oiled leather strap.  One unusual variation has been seen that features an orange dial.  Some other dial colours may also have been made available to order.
RLT10RLT10:  Rare, mechanical version of the RLT9. This watch is powered by a Russian made, 17-jewel mechanical Vostok cal. 2423 movement.  Very few RLT10's were made, perhaps little more than a dozen or so.  In addition to the black dialled version, a version with brushed steel dial and dark coloured hands, as shown here, was also available.
RLT11RLT11:  A limited edition of only fifty pieces, RLT11 is a divers watch water resistant to 200 metres.  It utilises the Swiss made, 25-jewel 2824-2, automatic movement by ETA.  The 38mm case (42mm including the crown) is 10mm thick, made of steel with a sand-blasted finish and has a screw-on back on which the limited edition number is engraved.  The case has a screw-down crown and is fitted with a sapphire crystal and one-way rotating (ratchet) bezel.  The watch is supplied with a matching Swiss solid steel bracelet with screwed links, as well as a NATO strap.  The watch features a black, calendar equipped dial with luminous hands and batons.
RLT Divers WatchRLT Divers Watch:  A rare variation of the RLT11, only about a dozen or so such watches are thought to exist.  Whilst utilising the dial and hands from the RLT11, this watch has a different style case.  The majority of these watches use the same Swiss made, 25-jewel ETA automatic movement as the RLT11, but one example is known to exist that is powered by a quartz movement.  Most watches feature the regular 60-minute diver style rotating bezel, but one example has been seen that incorporates a 12-hour rotating bezel that enables the time to be read in two separate time zones.
RLT12RLT12:  Powered by a Swiss 25-jewel ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with quick set date and hacking seconds, RLT12 is available in two, honeycomb patterned, black and white dial versions.  As standard the black dial features Arabic numerals, whilst the white dial sports Roman numerals.  However, at least one white-dialled version with Arabic numerals has been seen.  The 40mm all steel case has a screw-on display back.  Mineral glass is fitted front and back.  The watch is supplied as standard on a 20mm leather strap.
RLT13RLT13 version 1:  The one-handed watch!  This watch has just a single hand which enables the time to be read to the nearest five minutes.  Powered by a Swiss made, 25-jewel ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with quick set date, RLT13 has a 40mm all steel case (43mm to the tip of the crown) with screw-on display back.  Mineral glass is fitted front and back.  White and black dial versions are available and the watch is supplied as standard on a 20mm leather strap.
RLT13 version 2RLT13 version 2:  This second version of the RLT13 is differentiated from earlier examples by lacking the date feature.  Also, whilst silver, black and blue dial versions are available as standard, a white dial version is not.  Non-standard variations that have been seen include one with blue printing on a silver dial and a black-dialled version with the addition of  a sweep seconds hand.  It's also possible that some examples of this watch may have been produced to special order with metallic orange, red, yellow or green dials.
RLT14RLT14:  A limited edition of just twelve pieces, most RLT14's outwardly appear to be white dialled versions of the RLT16 (see below).  However, keen observers will note the word "Chronometer" on the dial which refers to the COSC certified, Swiss made, 25-jewel Mido automatic movement which powers this watch.  The case of the RLT14 is further distinguished by having the limited edition number engraved on the side.  The one known exception is the very first RLT14 to be made which has the same, black, dial as the RLT16.
RLT15RLT15:  A limited edition of only thirty pieces, this is a quartz chronograph powered by a Swiss made, ETA, jewelled movement.  Water resistant to 100 metres, the 39mm all steel case has a screw-on back and thick, domed, mineral crystal.  The chronograph runs to 30 minutes with a resolution of 1/10th. of a second.  The black dial also features a calendar function at the 4 O'clock position.  Supplied as standard with both a 20mm, solid steel, Oyster-style bracelet with 3.5mm links and a NATO strap.
RLT16RLT16:  Power for this watch is derived from the Swiss made, 25-jewel, ETA 2824-2 with automatic wind, quick set date and hacking seconds.  The 40mm all steel case has a screw-on display back and is furnished with mineral glass to the front and back.  The black dial features luminous triangular hour markers and luminous hands.  The RLT16 is supplied with a 20mm, black, Italian calf leather strap.  It's also possible that some examples of this watch may have been produced to special order with metallic orange, red, yellow or green dials.
RLT16BRLT16B:  Whilst being technically very similar to the RLT16, the RLT16B lacks a date function but, most strikingly, it features a blue dial with silver markings.  It is supplied as standard on a 20mm, brown leather strap.
RLT16BBRLT16BB:  Similar to the RLT16B, the RLT16BB differs by having blue markings and hands on a silver dial.
RLT17RLT17:  A limited edition of thirty pieces, this watch features a Swiss made, 17-jewel, Unitas 6498 manual wind movement decorated with Geneve stripes, blued screws and limited edition number engraved on the winding wheel.  The 40mm all steel case is water resistant to 30 metres, has a matt finish and a display back.  The dial is silver with pale green, luminous figures/hands.  The watch is supplied on a black or brown, oiled leather strap.
RLT18RLT18:  Born from a discussion on the RLT Forum about the popular, military style Timex boy's watch from the 1970's, the RLT18 features the Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with 25 jewels.  The 36mm all steel case has a screw-on display back and is fitted with mineral glass, front and back.  White and black dialled versions are available, both with quick set calendar (although at least one example without the date function is known to exist) and with Super Luminova applied to the hour and minute hands.  An 18mm leather strap is supplied as standard.
RLT19RLT19:  Distinguished by its genuine carbon fibre dial, this watch has a 40mm all steel case with display back, fitted with mineral glass to front and rear.  Power is derived from the Swiss made, 25-jewel ETA 2824-2 automatic movement.  When first unveiled there was much discussion on the RLT Forum about its design.  It appears that this model was eventually supplied in many different customer specified dial configurations.  The main picture shows the RLT19 in its originally specified form.  Some customers specified the RLT19 in the liveries of certain 2005 Formula 1 teams, including Ferrari, Minardi and Renault.  Many other variations are also known to exist and it's possible that some examples of this watch may have been produced to special order with metallic orange, red, yellow or green dials.
RLT20RLT20:  A short run of probably less than forty pieces, the RLT20 is a retro-styled divers watch comprised of a 1970's Swiss made NOS (New Old Stock) 39mm case, water resistant to 200 metres and with the crown located at the 4-5 O'clock position.  The case is available in polished steel (with red/blue "pepsi" bezel) or black, Teflon coated (with black bezel) versions and is fitted with a thick, domed, acrylic crystal. The watch is powered by a 17-jewel FE 5611 automatic wind movement with calendar.  It is believed that the first five examples of this watch produced were unusual in that they combined the steel case with the black bezel.
RLT21RLT21:  RLT21 employs a highly decorated Swiss Valjoux 7751, 25 jewel automatic movement running at 25,600 vibrations per hour and with a power reserve of 42 hours.  It is contained in a 40mm all steel case with display back and sapphire crystal.   The watch features a 12-hour chronograph, date pointer, day-of-the-week and month indicators, moon-phase dial, 24-hour hand and hacking seconds.  It is supplied on a crocodile grain leather strap with signed deployant clasp.
RLT22RLT22:  Distinguished by its silver guilloche calendar dial with Roman numerals, RLT22 is akin to a smaller version of the RLT4, with an all steel 37mm case and large onion crown.  Mineral glass is fitted to the front and to the screw-on display back.  The movement is the Swiss made, 25 jewel ETA 2824-2 automatic wind with hacking seconds and quick set date functions.  A 20mm, black, oiled leather strap is supplied as standard.
RLT23RLT23:  A large (37mm x 47mm) tonneau-shaped watch with polished all steel case and silver guilloche dial with calendar.  Mineral glass is fitted to both the front and to the screw-on display back.  RLT23 utilises the Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic wind movement, with 25 jewels, hacking seconds and quick set calendar.  It is supplied on a 20mm, brown, oiled leather strap.
RLT24RLT24:  The RLT24 12-hour chronograph utilises the Swiss Valjoux 7750, 25 jewel automatic movement with quick set calendar and hacking seconds. The all steel case is 40mm in diameter, 13mm thick and features a screw-on display back.  A domed mineral crystal is fitted and water resistance is rated at 5 ATM.  RLT24 is supplied on a 20mm dark brown Flieger strap.
RLT24-TRLT24-T:  RLT24-T is distinguished from the technically similar RLT24 by virtue of its sand-blasted, all dark titanium case.
RLT25RLT25:  RLT25 has a large (31mm x 51mm) rectangular, polished all steel case.  Mineral glass is fitted to both the front and screw-on display back.  The Swiss made, 25 jewel automatic movement is the familiar ETA 2824-2 with quick setting date and hacking seconds functions.  RLT25 has a textured dial in either white or black versions and is supplied on a 20mm oiled leather strap.
RLT26RLT26:  This watch uses the Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic wind movement housed in a 35mm all steel case with screw-on back and screw-down crown.  Quick set date and hacking seconds functions are provided and water resistance is rated at 3 ATM.  The watch features a white dial with blue hands and markers and is supplied on an 18mm leather strap.
RLT27RLT27:  A large (47mm wide including the crown) watch with Swiss made, all steel case with screw-on display back, rotating bezel and heavy, mineral crystal with inner magnification bubble.  Driven by the Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic wind movement with quick set date and hacking seconds features, RLT27 is water resistant to 100 metres, comes fitted with a solid steel 3.5mm thick bracelet and weighs-in at a hefty 200 grams.  A small number of RLT27's were also available to special order with silver, silver/blue or gold carbon fibre dials.  A one-off quartz version is also known to exist.
RLT28RLT28:  An automatic divers watch water resistant to 200 metres, RLT28 is powered by the Swiss made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement featuring quick set date and hacking seconds functions.  This is a large watch, 44mm (including crown) wide, with an all steel, polished case,  screw-on back and mineral glass.  It's supplied as standard with both 20mm black rubber and grey NATO straps.
RLT29RLT29 "TAG Heuer": RLT29 features a Swiss, jewelled quartz movement housed in a 42mm, all steel, early 1990's prototype TAG Heuer case with ratchet bezel, screw-on back, signed screw-down crown and sapphire crystal.  Water resistant to 200 metres, the watch was available with 16 different dial colour schemes, 8 different hour/minute hand sets and 6 different seconds hand types, giving  768 possible combinations although probably less than 100 watches were produced.  RLT29 was supplied as standard on a rubber strap.  In early 2007, two upgrade packages were made available.  Fitting of the upgrades required sending the original watches back to RLT.  The upgrades consisted of the fitment of a black dial with luminous markers, date and 24-hour scale, and a movement upgrade to either a 1 jewelled Ronda or 7 jewelled ETA 955 series.  Approximately thirty such upgraded RLT29's are thought to exist.  Later, probably less than half-a-dozen or so additional watches were made available that can be distinguished from the originals by the fitment of a different crown.
RLT30RLT30:  Driven by a Swiss, 17 jewel, Unitas 6497 manually wound movement, RLT30 has a large, 43mm all steel case with display back, onion crown, mineral glass and silver guilloche dial.  It is supplied on a 22mm leather strap.
RLT31RLT31:  Otherwise similar to the RLT21, this watch is distinguished by its white dial, contrasting hands and roman numerals.
RLT31 "Special"RLT31 "Special":  A one-off example of the RLT31 with a different, luminous, hand set and "No. 1" engraved on the case back.

RLT35 "Jet"RLT35 "Jet":  Made to special order, RLT35 is a true 24-hour watch powered by a Russian made, Raketa 19 jewel, manual wind movement. It has a 37mm all steel case with screw-on back featuring an airliner motif and signed crown.  The 24-hour dial is black with silver and red markers. RLT35 is supplied as standard on a black leather strap.

L. Taylor" signed rotor and day/date function.    The watch is supplied with either a black or brown, 22mm, oiled leather strap with signed buckle.  A numbered metal "number plate" hang-tag and key-ring are also included in the package.  Note that RLT38 No.1 has been stolen.  This was replaced by RLT38 No.0, so there are actually eleven watches in existence.
RLT39RLT39:  Popularly known as the "Tonneau", RLT39 is a limited edition of 20 pieces available with either a gold on burgundy, black on copper or gold on black, milled dial.  The dial manufacturing process can be seen on this video (.flv format, 8.8MB).  The 34mm x 52mm curved, all steel case has a display back,  mineral crystal and houses a Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with edge decoration and engraved rotor.  A customer option was to have their own initials engraved on the dial and/or rotor in place of "RLT".  The watch is supplied on a padded, Alligator grain, leather strap with signed buckle.  Note that RLT39 No.6 with black on copper dial and "RCG" engraved on the rotor has been stolen.
RLT40RLT40:  Made to order and with the option of the dial and/or rotor bearing the owner's initials, RLT40 has a 40mm all steel case with screw-on display back, mineral crystal and copper dial.  The watch is driven by a Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with 25 jewels and hacking seconds and is supplied on either a black or brown, alligator grain leather strap with signed buckle.
RLT41RLT41:  RLT41 has a 40mm all steel case with screw-on display back and is fitted with mineral crystals to both front and back.  It is most easily recognisable by its fully luminous dial.  The watch is supplied as standard with a Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with 25 jewels, quick set date and hacking seconds.  However, one example has been seen that was fitted with a 17 jewel, manual winding, ETA 2801 movement at the customer's request.  The supplied strap is 20mm, brown, "Woodland Calf" leather.
RLT42 "Navigator"RLT42 "Navigator":  A numbered, limited edition of 25 pieces, RLT42 has a 40mm all steel case with screw-on back, screw-down crown, is fitted with heavy, mineral glass and is water resistant to a depth of 200 metres.  The watch employs a Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with 25 jewels, hacking seconds and magnified date.  The rotating bezel allows the time to be read simultaneously in two different time zones.  The watch is supplied on a steel, oyster-style bracelet with solid links and wet-suit extension.
RLT43RLT43:  Although exact numbers are not known, RLT43 was made in very limited quantities.  This model features a high quality, Swiss made, 44mm case with onion crown, sapphire crystal and a display back.  The silver guilloche patterned dial has a copper centre.  The movement is the venerable, Swiss made, 25 jewel ETA 2824-2 automatic.  This watch is supplied on a leather strap.
RLT44RLT44:  RLT44 is distinguishable by its white, textured dial and application of Super Luminova on all three hands.  It features a 36mm all steel case with mineral crystal and display back.  The watch is powered by the Swiss made, ETA 2824-2 movement with automatic wind and quick set date.  RLT44 is supplied on an 18mm leather strap.
RLT45RLT45:  RLT45 has a 36mm all steel case with mineral glass used for both the front crystal and screw-on display back.  It features a black dial and luminous hands.  The movement is the Swiss made, automatic wind, ETA 2824-2 with 25 jewels.  It's supplied on an 18mm leather strap.
RLT46RLT46:  It's not certain whether this model ever finally made it into production or whether it may have remained a prototype.  The key feature of the RLT46 is its hand made sandwich dial construction.  The watch case was 40mm wide and featured a display back.  Introduced at a time when ETA movements were becoming increasingly difficult to obtain by independent watch makers and companies, the RLT46 may have been powered by the Swiss made ETA 2824-2 or the technically similar Chinese made Sea-Gull ST18.
RLT47RLT47:  So far as I know no model officially designated RLT47 was made.  However it's possible that one of the "one-off" models mentioned below may have been given this designation.
RLT48RLT48 "Navigator Quartz":  Available in only very limited quantities, RLT48 features a 200 metre water resistant, 40mm case with screw-on back, screw-down crown and heavy, flat, mineral crystal.  The rotating bezel allows the time to be read in two different time zones.  The watch utilises a Swiss, jewelled quartz movement and it is supplied on a "Bond" NATO strap.

RLT51RLT51:  The military style RLT51 features an automatic movement with hacking seconds, a 40mm all steel case with screw-on display back and a mineral crystal.  The watch has a black, Swiss made dial and is supplied on a leather strap.  The prototype version lacked the presence of "RLT Watch Co. ENGLAND" on the dial.
